[Fred Hampton] I want you to know that I want you to think. If you ever think about me and if you think about me and if you ain’t gonna do no revolutionary act, forget about me. I don’t want myself on your mind if you’re not going to work for the people. Like we always said, if you’re asked to make a commitment at the age of twenty and you say, I don’t want to make a commitment only because of the simple reason that I’m too young to die, I want to live a little bit longer. What you did is... you’re dead already.

(See line) See line woman, she drink coffee, She drink tea, and then go home, See line, see line woman. (See line) See line woman, dressed in green, Wears silk stockings with golden seams, See line woman. (See line) See line woman, dressed in red, Make a man lose his head, See line, see line woman. (See line) See line woman, black dress on, For a thousand dollars, she'll wail and she'll moan, she'll moan, See line woman. (See line) Ah. Wiggle, wiggle, turn like a cat, Wink at a man and he'll wink back, See line, see line, see line woman. (See line) Empty his pockets and wreck his days, Make him love her and she'll fly, fly away, Oh, see line woman. (See line) Ee, ee, ee, ee, Ah, ah, ah, ah, Oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah. Ah, yeah. (See line) See line, see line, see line, see line woman. (See line) See line, see line, see line woman. (See line)

Close the blinds don’t close the mind, one of one looking like no design, God made me then broke the mold, I’m no brand I’m customized. If I’m on edge it was worth the climb, nobody in my airspace, I don’t even wanna see mirror yo, nobody in my damn face. I need time, I was born alone that’s true delight, My parents know they had me then had no more, ‘cause they got it right. And I shine, I’d be so proud if I wasn’t me, When I was growing up I ain’t wanna rap, but I still am what I wanna be, That’s an honest man. The universe laughing ‘cause it know, I got a lotta plans, Turning myself to the wind, like the alchemist in the desert sand. In my element, what I do next no telling it, Anyone’s path is irrelevant, my mind my gun no shell in it. Personal legend I follow, hope that I’m blessed with tomorrow, That be like winning the lotto, no time for sorrow drowning in bottles. I had to take a second just pause, lead with love and not force, You not me then get lost, solitude. I need that, solitude. Solitude. I need that, solitude. Solitude.

[Colin Kaepernick] I mean ultimately it’s to bring awareness and make people, you know, realize what’s really going on in this country. There are a lot of things that are going on that are unjust, people aren’t being held accountable for, and that’s something that needs to change. That’s something that, you know, this country stands for freedom, liberty, justice for all, and it’s not happening for all.

Hard times is here, And everywhere you go, Times is harder, Than they ever been before. And the people are driftin’, From door to door, Can't find no heaven, And don't care where they go. Let me tell you people, Just before I go, These hard times will kill you, Just dry long so. And if you hear me singin’, My true lonesome song, These hard times can last us, So very long, long, long. These hard times, Everywhere, everywhere you go.

Austin Antoine, Efa Etoroma, And it goes like this, this, this (what). Alright, know the vibe, (it’s a vibe) Shout it out, (open wide) Let it ride, (let it ride) All day, (all night) All the what, (all the time, time, time, time). Follow along as I shed my sense, Fertilizer how I spread this shit, but I’ve been in the present tense, While other people stuck in the past or tomorrow, I don’t redbox clocks cause my time ain’t borrowed. I’m up early enough I could chirp to birds, Keep my mind to these rhymes I rehearse the words, And if the vibes ain’t bumping, you know I say something, If you alley-oop the groove then I gotta slam dunk it. I’mma never let them stop my spark, like it’s not from the heart, Take another shot in the dark. Listen, if I’m lying then I’m flying, they don’t get it, I ain’t hopping on a plane in a minute. Gotta tell ‘em. Alright, know the vibe, (it’s a vibe) Shout it out, (open wide) Let it ride, (let it ride) All day, (all night) All the what, (all the time, time, time, time). When the sun goes down my crown just shines brighter, My mood is ice cool fuel that fights fire, I never trip about a rapper or a rhymer, What’s a splinter to a tree or a bruise to Mike Myers. I’m a different kinda genius, can base it off my genus, With an ego ‘bout as subtle as my demons, Still I’ve always had to keep it sharp as a needle on a tweezer, Since Run DMC had made a song about Adidas. Been iller than any remedy known, Dammit even my achilles is gold covered in stone, And if I’m lying then I’m dying, they don’t get it,  I ain’t hopping in a coffin in a minute. Gotta tell ‘em. Alright, know the vibe, (it’s a vibe) Shout it out, (open wide) Let it ride, (let it ride) All day, (all night) All the what, (all the time, time, time, time).

about

NYC-based jazz drummer CURTIS NOWOSAD presents CNRMXD, a companion project to his self-titled, third album, released in 2019 on Sessionheads United and co-produced by pianist Marc Cary. The album, which focuses heavily on social justice issues, has been reimagined through the lenses of nine different producers from the US, Canada and Europe: Jesse Fischer, d.boom, Gengis Don, Keenyn Omari, Misha Savage, Jett Carter, Billa Joints, Efajemue and Jessi Lee. The hip hop/R&B/EDM/Afrobeat-tinged collection also features several special guests: JSWISS, Alina Engibaryan, Austin Antoine and Brianna Thomas and Michael Mayo, who were both featured on the original album.

On CNRMXD, Nowosad’s compositions are given new life by the many special guests: “The Water Protectors,” dedicated to the Standing Rock Sioux and featuring vocalist Michael Mayo, is creatively reconceptualized by producer Jessi Lee, and “Never Forget What They Did to Fred Hampton,” Nowosad’s tribute to the fallen Black Panther, is given a boom bap treatment by Gengis Don, with a sublime guest vocal by Alina Engibaryan and samples of Hampton himself. Misha Savage and Jett Carter bring a similar vibe to “Blues 4 Colin K,” which also features the words of Colin Kaepernick, the NFL quarterback whose career was unjustly cut short for taking a stand against racial injustice. LA-based producer Efajemue—also well known for his work as drummer with the band Moonchild—and MC Austin Antoine flipped “Waltz 4 Meg,” into the hip hop track “W4M (All the Time),” and “Song 4 Marielle Franco,” a tribute to the assassinated Brazilian politician and social justice advocate, was transformed into “S4MF (Solitude),” by producer Keenyn Omari and rising star MC, JSWISS. Gil Scott-Heron’s “Home Is Where the Hatred Is,” is brought into House territory by Billa Joints, and Jesse Fischer’s genre-bending take on Nina Simone’s “See Line Woman,” features the soulful voice of Brianna Thomas, as does Skip James’ “Hard Time Killing Floor Blues,” remixed by Berlin-based producer d.boom.
